Residential Guttering Projects
Location: Poole, Dorset
The historic Scaplen’s Court in Poole, Dorset, a Grade I listed fifteenth-century building, recently underwent careful restoration after storm damage severely impacted its roof and rainwater system. A fallen tree had snapped a section of the cast iron box guttering, leading to significant structural concerns. County Gutters was contacted to assess whether any of the existing guttering could be salvaged, but upon inspection, it became clear that a full replacement was necessary. Working with Longbottom Foundry in Holmfirth, we provided a like-for-like cast iron box gutter, ensuring that the new system remained faithful to the original. Mounted on top rafter brackets and painted black, the installation retained the traditional aesthetic while reinforcing the building’s long-term resilience.
Given Scaplen’s Court’s Grade I listing, every detail of the replacement had to align with conservation requirements. One of the key challenges was accommodating the building’s natural bow, requiring precise craftsmanship to ensure the gutter followed the structure’s contours. County Gutters’ experience in working with heritage properties proved invaluable, as the project demanded both technical expertise and an understanding of historic preservation. The entire process, from survey to completion, was completed in time for the site’s first event of the season, where the gardens serve as a picturesque setting for wedding photography. This project highlights County Gutters’ commitment to preserving historically significant buildings while delivering durable, high-quality rainwater solutions.
