Poole Museum

The Project Details

Poole Museum is located on the quay and covers the local history of the area. We were contracted to replace all the existing rainwater goods with new power coated aluminium. Part of the museum, Scaplens Court is a grade 1 listed building, due to this the choice of the guttering used was a major factor in the order. The Wool Hall and Jail House a 125mm Victorian ogee gutter was chosen, Oakleys Hall was replaced with a 150mm cast half round guttering, this was required as the building had a curve, this meant the gutter had to follow the line of the building, as the cast half round is manufactured in 1.8 metre lengths, the gutter can be cut into shorter lengths to follow the curve in the building. 76mm cast collar rainwater pipes were installed on all elevations of the building to replicate the original system. As the building is situated close to the harbour a marine grade powder coat was required, RAL 7021 in a leatherette finish was the preferred colour.

This extensive restoration at Poole Museum, including Scaplen’s Court, Wool Hall, Jail House, and Oakleys Hall, showcases County Gutters’ expertise in preserving historical architecture while upgrading to modern, durable materials. The selection of 125mm Victorian ogee gutters for Wool Hall and Jail House ensured a seamless match with the original design, while 150mm cast half-round gutters were specifically chosen for Oakleys Hall to accommodate its curved façade. The ability to cut the 1.8m cast half-round sections into shorter lengths allowed the guttering to follow the building’s unique contours, maintaining both functionality and authenticity. Across all elevations, 76mm cast collar rainwater pipes were installed to replicate the original system, ensuring the historic integrity of the structures was preserved. Given the museum’s harbour-side location, a marine-grade powder coat in RAL 7021 leatherette finish was applied to protect against the coastal elements, guaranteeing longevity and minimal maintenance while enhancing the building’s heritage appearance.
