Amberley Castle

Amberely Castle is a unique luxury hotel in the West Sussex countryside, it has 900 years of history and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. County Gutters were contacted regarding a serious water ingress problem in one of the guest rooms.

When considering a rainwater system for an historic building, there are several factors that need to be taken into consideration. With rainfall intensity and budget being key factors, and due to the roof pitch and effective roof area, the chosen option was a 150mm beaded half round Sentinel clip fit gutter on rise and fall spikes, Colonnade cast eared rainwater pipes were used to give a heritage appearance.

Aluminium was chosen instead of cast iron on this project for its low maintenance, lightweight, yet durable properties. By polyester powder coating the rainwater system in a heritage type RAL colour, it mimics the cast iron aesthetics, it will not need repainting for at least 30 years. Aluminium is lightweight, does not rust or corrode and will not crack or fade, needing very little maintenance.

This historic luxury hotel in the West Sussex countryside with over 900 years of history, was facing a significant water ingress issue in one of its guest rooms. To address this, County Gutters was contacted to provide a suitable rainwater system that would both function effectively and respect the heritage of the building. After carefully considering factors such as rainfall intensity, roof pitch, and budget, the team recommended a 150mm beaded half-round Sentinel clip-fit gutter mounted on rise and fall spikes, paired with Colonnade cast eared rainwater pipes to enhance the property's historic appearance. Aluminium was selected for its low-maintenance, lightweight, and durable properties, offering a modern alternative to cast iron. This bespoke solution provided the perfect balance of aesthetics, durability, and minimal upkeep for this iconic, centuries-old building.
